Mosher Drew, The First 75 years

Celebrating the anniversary of a pioneering practice, Mosher Drew, The First 75 Years documents the rich, and until now, unpublished history of one of the most emblematic protagonists of modern architecture in San Diego. Founded in 1948 by Robert Mosher and Roy Drew, the practice Mosher Drew has designed some of San Diego’s most iconic projects including the Coronado Bridge (1965), the Central Federal Tower (NBC Tower) (1972), Muir College at the University of California San Diego (1965), and San Diego State’s Aztec Center (1964).

Drawing extensively from never-before published archival materials, and richly documented by the photographs of Julius Shulman, Robert Cleveland and Lynn Fayman amongst others, Mosher Drew, The First 75 Years traces the work of the office from its inception to the present day, following a chronological structure organized into three distinct periods shaped by its expanding leadership team, and divided into sections that document original interviews, writings, and publications.

Rather than a linear front-to-back-cover narrative, the editorial strategy here proposes an open-ended structure that brings together distinct chronological surveys of projects interspersed alongside separate sections featuring original archival materials that feature drawings, photographs, writings, interviews, articles, and publications, as a way to highlight the wide range of mediums by which architecture is documented, and inviting the reader to enter into the content from any section.
